Continuing education

Important! Do NOT send in your activity log or documentation with your annual renewal. When needed, the Board will request your paperwork in writing.

CPD activities

Qualifying CPD activities

• Successful completion or auditing of college credit courses relevant to the practice of engineering or surveying

• Successful completion of continuing education courses, either offered by a professional or trade organization, university or college, or offered in-house by a corporation relevant to the practice of engineering or surveying

• Completing or attending a seminar, conference, convention or workshop, relevant to the practice of engineering or surveying

• Attending satellite downlink video courses where attendance is verified and program material meets requirements

• Successful completion of online courses relevant to the practice of engineering or surveying

• Authoring published papers, articles, or books (to be used only once and only in the year that it was published)

• Completing computer software instructional courses that relate to the improvement of one’s profession or business

• Teaching or instructing relevant courses, seminars, or workshops

• Being an officer or active committee member of an engineering or surveying society

Non-qualifying CPD activities

• Regular employment

• Attending general committee or business meetings as required by your employment

• Self-study

• Personal self-improvement

• Real estate courses, financial planning

• Website design courses

• Trade show displays

• Topics not relevant to the engineering or surveying professions

• Enrollment without attendance at courses, seminars, etc.

• Repetitive attendance, teaching or instructing the same course, seminar, etc.

• A patent or a published book, article, paper prior to the applicable reporting period

CPD conversion hours

CPD hours | Description
45 = 1 university or college semester hour
30 = 1 university or college quarter hour
10 = 1 continuing education unit [CEU]
10 = 1 published paper, article or book (Only in the year published)
10 = 1 U.S. patent awarded (Only in the year awarded)
2 = 1 year of service as an officer or active committee member of a professional or technical society, or association
1 = 1 hour attendance at a conference, seminar or workshop
1 = 1 contact hour of teaching a class for the first time (This does not apply to full-time faculty)

CPD record maintenance

You are responsible for maintaining your CPD records for three years. The required records need to include an activity log showing the type, date, duration, number of CPD hours claimed, instructors’ names and certificates of completion or other evidence of attendance.
