Reexam approval

Non-ABET degree evaluation required

In order to be considered for Ohio examination approval, the Board requires all non-ABET accredited degrees to be evaluated by the Center for Professional Engineering Education Services [CPEES], an affiliate of the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying [NCEES].

IMPORTANT! Your previously-approved, non-ABET degree may need to be evaluated before you can be approved for a reexamination. Go to our Degree evaluation policy page for policies and procedures.

Overview

You may be qualified for reexamination of an examination in Ohio only if you have been previously approved by the Board for the same examination for which you are reapplying. If you have not been approved by the Board for the examination for which you are applying, make another choice from Exam choices on the left.

For approval consideration, candidates must complete the 2-page reexamination application. The nonrefundable application fee is $25.00, made payable in U.S. funds to Treasurer, State of Ohio. If your application is incomplete, your application and fee will be returned.

After verifying your eligibility, the Board will mail you an approval letter. The letter will include instructions on how to complete your examination registration by going online to the Engineering and Land Surveying Examination Services [ELSES] website. If the Board does not approve your application, you will be mailed an explanation.

2008 October deadlines, fees

Engineering and Land Surveying Examination Services [ELSES] administers Ohio's NCEES examinations twice a year in Cincinnati, Cleveland and Columbus. The 2008 October PE and PS exams will be offered on Friday, October 24, 2008. The 2008 October FE and FS exams will be offered on Saturday, October 25, 2008.

Calculator policy

The Board's calculator policy is the same as the NCEES calculator policy. There are no exceptions.

Study materials

The PE and PS are open-book examinations.

Information about allowed and disallowed reference materials can be found on the ELSES website. The Board policy is the same as ELSES policy. There are no exceptions.

The FE and FS are closed-book examinations. You cannot bring any reference materials to an NCEES FE or FS examination.

The FE Supplied-Reference Handbook [contact information required by NCEES] and FS Supplied-Reference Formulas are available from NCEES on their website. ELSES will provide a copy of the FE Supplied-Reference Handbook for FE examinees at the exam site. The FS Supplied-Reference Formulas are included in the morning and afternoon examination booklets.

The Board cannot suggest and does not supply study materials for NCEES exams.

IMPORTANT! Incomplete applications will be returned. Make sure the $25.00 fee is enclosed, all initial boxes are initialed, your personal information is complete, the exam choice is selected, the transcript choice is selected and the transcript included if required, the disciplinary boxes are checked, and the application is signed and dated.

REMINDER…While the Board staff can and does answer your exam questions by email, fax and telephone, the Board staff cannot determine if you are qualified to take an NCEES exam. Your qualifications are reviewed by the Board's panel of experts after you have applied.
