Student approval Student approval Overview, definitions Recent graduates or currently enrolled students of Ohio-approved institutions may apply to take the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying [NCEES] Fundamentals of Engineering or NCEES Fundamentals of Surveying examination. You must complete the 2-page student application and submit a letter from an authorized representative from your institution which temporarily substitutes for an official transcript. The Board informally refers to this document as the dean's letter or dean's statement. A recent graduate is a person who has graduated but cannot produce an official transcript 90 days before the examination. Currently enrolled students must anticipate graduation within six months after the next scheduled examination. Qualifications, instructions For the Fundamentals of Engineering examination, the Board will only consider Ohio EAC/ABET-accredited engineering curricula or Ohio TAC/ABET-accredited engineering technology curricula. For the Fundamentals of Surveying examination, the Board will only consider Ohio ABET-accredited surveying curricula or Board-approved surveying curricula. For approval consideration, student candidates must complete the 2-page student application [PES 1011-ST] and include the required dean's letter which is the letter from the authorized representative from your institution temporarily substituting for an official transcript. The application fee is $25.00, made payable to Treasurer, State of Ohio. If your application is incomplete, it will be returned. After verifying your eligibility, the Board will mail your approval letter which includes instructions on how to complete your examination registration by going online to the ELSES website. If the Board does not approve your application, you will be mailed an explanation letter. IMPORTANT! A passing grade does not automatically register you as an Engineer Intern or Surveyor Intern in Ohio. The Board will need your official transcript showing your degree before you can be registered as an E.I. or S.I. and receive your wall certificate. 2008 October deadlines, fees Engineering and Land Surveying Examination Services [ELSES] administers Ohio's NCEES examinations twice a year in Cincinnati, Cleveland and Columbus. The 2008 October PE and PS exams will be offered on Friday, October 24, 2008. The 2008 October FE and FS exams will be offered on Saturday, October 25, 2008.
Calculator policy ![]() The Board's calculator policy is the same as the NCEES calculator policy. There are no exceptions. Study materials The FE and FS are closed-book examinations. You cannot bring any reference materials to an NCEES FE or FS examination. The FE Supplied-Reference Handbook [contact information required by NCEES] and FS Supplied-Reference Formulas are available from NCEES on their website.
